Tithing Committee
What is the Tithing Committee?
The corporal works of mercy are Catholic and Christian charitable actions that respond to the physical and material needs of other people. Granting funds to the local charities that those in our community in need, is a Corporal Work of Mercy.
Every year Holy Spirit Parish donates 4% of its total collections to send to charities that serve the needy in the local area. The Tithing Committee is the group who decides which charities receive the tithing funds. The process includes:
- the charity completes a grant application
- the Tithing Committee meets to consider the applications
- Holy Spirit Parish provides the funds to charities whose grants were approved
In recent years, grants to more than 15 local charities have totaled approximately $55,000 annually.
Committee members meet 2-3 times per year to evaluate grant applications and disburse funds to community agencies.
